Local MP Andrew Mitchell has visited the Severn Trent Trust Fund, which is based in Sutton Coldfield, to see first hand how it is helping local families struggling with debt.

The Severn Trent Trust Fund provides grants to families unable to meet the cost of water bills and can help with essential household costs.  The charity, along with some other major grant giving trusts, is managed by Auriga Services who operate from premises in Mill Street, Sutton Coldfield.

In 2009 alone Severn Trent’s Trust Fund has helped some 1,800 families in Sutton and adjoining areas of Birmingham by giving grants totalling over £885,000.

Following a meeting with the Trust Fund’s Chief Executive Stuart Braley, Mr Mitchell said, “I am pleased to see that the Severn Trent Trust Fund is offering tremendous help to families in Sutton Coldfield and the surrounding areas.

“Unfortunately in these difficult financial times it is no surprise to hear that demand for help is outstripping available funds but I am assured that the Trust will continue to help as many people as possible.”

“Severn Trent Water must be praised for this type of community work.”
