Andrew Mitchell MP Supports MET Academy

06 January 2010

Local MP Andrew Mitchell has pledged his support for a pioneering new course aimed at 16-19 year olds designed to equip them with the enterprise skills and qualifications that employers are looking for.

Andrew Mitchell MP said, “The MET Academy provides today’s young people with a huge opportunity to gain a broader and more relevant qualification.  The world of business is changing and becoming more challenging and requires a wider skills set than that provided by a traditional education.

“I am pleased that the West Midlands and Sutton Coldfield is leading the way and setting the standards for all Academy related education nationally.

“The enterprise approach is changing the education experience.    Greater collaboration between the business world and education is clearly the way forward and the MET Academy is one of the business and enterprise academies in the UK to pioneer this approach of providing young people with business experience and skills.

“I would urge local companies to support them by offering to provide ‘guru’ lectureships, site visits and even internships to help them develop their own business ideas and give them the relevant skills.”

The head of the Academy Debbie West adds “We are delighted that Andrew has provided us with so much of his time to support the development of the Academy and our students.”

Any local companies or business people wishing to lend their support should contact Debbie West on 07890 064174 or email dwest@sutcol.ac.uk.
